About
Hi, my name is Brandon Wong. I am a Comic Illustrator/Writer + Artist from the Bay Area.
My mission is to express my authentic self through my creations. Many spaces that we must navigate to survive in this world force us to adapt, often at the expense of being true to ourselves. I seek for the stories I tell to be a sacred space where I can be free.
My stories are a window into the subjects that occupy my mind and a creative expression of what I want to share at the time. Sometimes I want to talk about how people lose valuable traditions and pieces of their history when they assimilate into a different culture (Wormhead); other times, I want to tell a fun, action story about a notorious outlaw getting ambushed by an assassin while he was using the bathroom (Outlaw Ody). The stories I personally go back to and comfort me the most have immersive fantasy worlds and characters that I can empathize with.
I was exposed to art at a young age through my mother, who skilled with fine-liner pens, watercolor paints, and painting on wood. My maternal grandmother, who I unfortunately never got to meet, owned a ceramics shop and taught pottery classes.
I prefer to use traditional mediums when making comics and illustrations. The natural textures and effects that ink, markers, and watercolor paints create are a part of my illustrations that I always want to be present. I primarily use digital tools to add text, screen-tones, logo design, and sometimes color. My art style is a combination of my influences with my own unique sensibilities. Natural environments, weird/cool/cute-looking characters, and fight scenes are my favorite things to draw.
In addition to comics and illustration, I have been hired as an Animator, Graphic Designer, and Web Designer. My immediate goal for my personal art is to publish a creator-owned graphic novel.
I love swimming, going to therapy, and making fun of my dad. I hate 5 day work weeks, dijon mustard, and writing bios.
